John Muir travels with party on the USS Corwin to Wrangell Island.
A branch off the Wawona Road into Yosemite, climbing the back of Glacier Point, is completed.
1882
State legislature appropriates money to purchase and maintain trails and roads within the Grant constructed and operated by private parties. The Four-Mile
Trail to Glacier Point is the first acquisition.
Anderson Trail from Happy Isles to the bridge below Vernal Fall is built.
1883
Pillsbury Family, comprising Drs. Harriet and Harlin and their three children, Carol, Ernest, and Arthur, come to California via ship down the East Coast from
NY, across the Isthmus of Panama, up the West Coast, again by ship, landing in San Francisco. The family transports their possessions via wagons to Auburn
where they join the Congregationalist Church.

1 - Arrive Auburn: H.H. Family - Sailed from New York to Panama, crossed the Isthmus and then took ship to San Francisco. (HH is 50 years old).

1 - Carrie H. Pillsbury dies. There is no death certificate. A cemetery plot was purchased and then later sold, unoccupied, the the Collins family.
Arthur C. Pillsbury begins experiments with cross breeding birds,selling livestock, in Auburn.

Arthur C. Pillsbury attends Normal School in Auburn.
State legislature appropriates $40,000 to build the SToneman House, in honor of the California governor.
Echo Wall Trail from Nevada Fall to Glacier Point built.

All private trails and roads within the Grant are purchased by this year and made available to the public at no cost.

Mark L. McCord becomes Guardian of the Grant.

Leidig's Hotel closes, removed by order of the State Commissioners.
Muir climbs Mt. Rainier, writes Ascent of Mt. Rainier.

Muir camps with Robert Underwood Johnson in Tuolumne Meadows, witnesses the impact of grazing.
1890
J.D. Foley establishes print shop and studio in Yosemite Village.
September
30 - U. S. Congress passes a bill following recommendations from Muir in two Century articles. Yosemite Valley remains under State control.
October
1 - Yosemite National Park (reserved forest lands) created.
